This 4-hour competency-based education program is designed for clinicians seeking to integrate pharmacogenomics (PGx) in their practice. It is comprised of self-paced, online modules that will challenge you to use the concepts learned in real-life scenarios. Upon completion, continuing education can be awarded and access to additional courses focused on applications of PGx in a variety of therapeutic areas will be made available through access to our PGx Learning Hub.

Upon completion of this course you may enroll in the following courses focused on different PGx applications areas:

PGx in Practice: Primary Care (2 h)
PGx in Practice: Cardiology (1.5 h)
PGx in Practice: Mental Health (1 h)
PGx in Practice: Germline Oncology (1.5 h)
PGx in Practice: Pain (1 h)

Course details

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is designed for all healthcare professionals, including Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Physicians and Physician Assistants.

Precision medicine and PGx (2 units)
Foundations of PGx (3 units)
All about testing (3 units)
Principles of PGx decision making (5 units)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Review foundational genomic concepts and nomenclature.
Describe how PGx variation affects the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
Order quality PGx testing for patients across their patient care journey.
Explain the individual and societal risks and benefits of genetic testing in the healthcare setting.
Develop a stepwise decision-making process for the integration of PGx with clinical variables (e.g. phenoconversion) that known to impact PK/PD to make appropriate recommendations.
Identify one's own role and that of other interprofessional team members to apply PGx into practice.
