LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Identify gene-drug pairs with high level of evidence for infectious diseases, HLAs, and G6PD. Describe how PGx variation affects the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, including drug toxicity. Recognize the availability of evidence-based PGx guidelines relevant to the prescribing of antibiotics, antifungal, antivirals, and medications associated with HLA hypersenstivity reactions and G6PD deficiency. Give examples for clinical situations when PGx testing is likely to be useful for the treatment of infectious diseases or to avoid certain drug toxicities. Identify specific challenges to the implementation of pharmacogenomics in infectious diseases or with HLA/G6PD genotyping.

HOW TO OBTAIN CONTINUING EDUCATION
